The prospectus offers not only comprehensive information about the University of Göttingen, but also information about studying at a German university in general.

Detailed explanations of the available courses of study, their contents, requirements and the degrees awarded form the core of the prospectus. Special research projects and post-graduate research groups are also listed. University facilities such as the renowned University Library, the Language Center and counselling services are described. Also detailed are nearby institutions such as the Max-Planck-Institutes, the German Research Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (DLR), the Technical College Hildesheim-Holzminden, and other scientific and pedagogic facilities.
The book offers a step-by-step guide for the prospective student through the entire process of considering where and what to study, and preparing for application procedures, language requirements, acceptance, arrival and settling in. Practical information on topics such as finding a place to live and financing one´s stay is also included. Several sections of the book are devoted to outlining the various social services available, including the activities of the Göttingen Student Service. Sports, theatre and cultural facilities are listed, and a map of the town supplements the above information and provides a quick reference to the attractive university town of Göttingen.
